‘Schweben’ is an invitation to immerse yourself in a series of short narratives about out-of- body musings. “Schweben” was designed for an app via on mobile phones. As this work is geolocated, it is still accessible in a small local area near the Stubnitz boat’s berth in Hamburg, Germany. Guests, passerbys and members of the Stubnitz staff were asked about their experiences in floating or hovering in the air... Other bodies of water and air whirl alongside, from vitamin tablets to ship ventilators. The piano belongs to the ship, in an improvisation played by the crew's cook, Ronan.
Schweben ist eine Einladung an die ZuhörerInnen, ihre Phantasie treiben zu lassen und in die akusmatische Täuschung außerkörperlicher Gemütszustände einzutauchen. Die Arbeit für für eine App auf Mobiltelefonen entwickelt. Als geolokale Datei lässt sie sich immer noch in einem kleinen Gebiet nahe des Liegeplatzes der Stubnitz in Hamburg abrufen. Gäste, Passanten und Mitarbeiter des Motorschiffs Stubnitz wurden nach ihren Erfahrungen mit dem Schweben/sich-Treiben-lassen gefragt... Wasser- und Luftkörper wirbeln dazwischen, von Vitamintabletten bis zu Schiffsventilatoren. Das Klavier gehört zur Einrichtung des Schiffs, in einer Improvisation gespielt vom Mannschaftskoch, Ronan.

‘A Garden Patch (45C)’ invites its listeners into a patchy areal of lawns, talks and flowerbeds. Work needs being done, field recordings mingle with compositions, random notes fall like rain or seeds onto the rustling grounds.
A Garden Patch (45C)" lädt seine Hörer in ein lückenhaftes Areal aus Rasenflächen, Gesprächen und Blumenbeeten ein. Es muss gearbeitet werden, Feldaufnahmen vermischen sich mit Kompositionen, zufällige Noten fallen wie Regen oder Samen auf den raschelnden Boden.

Gabi Schaffner

Gabi Schaffner works as a transdisciplinary artist and researcher across the fields of radio art,
composition, and performance. Her practice is determined by the methods of poetic ethnography in connection with Fluxus-like mise-en-scènes. Next to her radiophonic productions, Schaffner creates
speculative musical genres and inserts them into music history in order to raise awareness for cultural, gender-related and/or geographical conditions. From the 1990s on, she has presented readings, concerts, and performances in many collaborative settings: off-spaces, galleries, gardens, festivals, and online platforms throughout Europe and worldwide. Schaffner has been realizing award-winning radio plays with Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Hessian Cultural Radio, and ABC Australia.
Her epic 22-hour composition “A Wave Novel” was broadcast as part of the festival RadioArtZone in 2022. Since 2012, she organizes “Datscha Radio”, a nomadic transmission project that focuses on
current ecological issues. Next iteration will happen in September ‘24, in Gyumri, Armenia. Her most
recent activity: botanic video poetry. Gabi Schaffner lives (mostly) in Berlin.
