Edward Ruchalski is a composer, sound artist and field recordist. His compositions have been performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Mass MoCA, Symphony Space on Broadway, the Festival of Miami, and elsewhere.
In 2020, Ruchalski’s acousmatic work, “Refined Localities”, was selected for inclusion in the exhibition, Audiosphere, at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Spain and his work is permanently archived at the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. His composition “For Carrie Mae Weems” has been performed at the Kennedy Center as part of MacArthur Genius Fellow Carrie Mae Weems’ production, Grace Notes, a gift for Barack and Michelle Obama.
Ruchalski has been an artist in residence at Wave Farm in Acra, N.Y. During the residency he created a concept for a radio show with co-host Stephen Bradley, University of Maryland, called Bells, Bugs, Whispers & Plinks. The show airs on WGXC 90.7 FM.
Ruchalski was awarded a two-year artist residency at Stone Quarry Hill Art Park (Fall 2016 – Fall 2018). The residency culminated in a multimedia solo show, Pond Songs: Recordings and Photographs of Green Frogs and Aquatic Insects.
Ruchalski’s fixed media releases have been published by drunken boat, earlid, taâlem and ink&coda.
