Gillis Van Der Wee & Lotte Nijsten
Landforms is the sound collective of field recordist Gillis Van der Wee and documentary maker Lotte Nijsten. Together, they create audio documentaries, soundwalks, sound installations and mixed media performances, in which they explore the relationship between humans and their acoustic environment. In their work, they look for ways to gain more insight in the ecological and social contexts of their surrounding landscapes through walking, listening and encountering. Their works are featured on local and international radio stations, festivals, museums and theatres. Their sound piece OBSCUUR was awarded with the “Prix Découvert Pierre Schaeffer” from Phonurgia Nova in 2022.
Lotte Nijsten (1994°) creates sound pieces, performances and audio documentaries. She earned a master’s degree in Language and Literature from the VUB and graduated as a radio producer from RITCS. Besides her own artistic work, she also works as a freelancer. She is a board member of Klankverbond, the Flemish professional association for audio producers.
Besides being a sound designer, Gillis Van der Wee (1992°) is also a foley artist, sound artist and composer, specialised in field recording. He earned a degree in Sociology from KULeuven and graduated as a sound designer from RITCS. In addition to his own artistic practice, he works as an independent sound designer and foley artist for film- sound- and theatre projects.
