Yaaray
Yaaray is a composer, sound artist and vocalist based between The Hague and Paris. She seeks to explore and expose the hidden elements within recognised sounds and meanings, aspiring to obscure the borders between planes of expression with personal interpretation. Her work focuses primarily on electroacoustic composition, sound for film, sound installations, and exploration of spatiality in various surround settings. By means of improvisation, notation for acoustic instruments, creative recording techniques, gestured objects and digital sound manipulation, she records and revisits her own music to dissect and extract the unnoticed, in a minimal approach, capturing a specific moment, and embracing its imperfections and inherent nuances that cannot be reproduced. She takes a particular interest in poetry, voice and bass instruments. Several on-going projects (‘This Night’, ‘Prayers’) are dedicated to the analysis, interpretation and abstract transference of meaning from Hebrew poetry into sound.
