This piece was constructed almost solely with sounds taken from radio, taken from private improvisations recorded from 2022 to 2025 as well as tapes supplied by Robert Maycock. A synthesizer can be heard at certain portions as they were used in the
improvisations.

The overall structure is a collage style I have been working with for some time, where sounds repeatedly fade in and out, combine with one another, or are suddenly interrupted by something else. To me, this feeling is reminiscent of tuning the dial through different radio stations, where sounds converge in an abstract manner. The piece is also in a stream-of-consciousness style, as most sounds were randomly selected and edited until they appeared to fit the piece. The jittery and abstract nature this causes was something I really appreciated.

A big inspiration for this piece was early electronic music, in particular Iannis Xenakis' "Orient-Occident" - the approach taken to some sounds on that piece (heavily slowed down and cut off sounds) were essential in the dynamic of my piece.

Stockport Swimming Team

Stockport Swimming Team is a genre shifting collage project from Glasgow, UK. Since starting out in 2021, his releases have been featured on labels such as Retrac Recordings and rotten/trash, alongside his own label Welcome to Clydebank, which has been promoting experimental and noise music since 2020 and releasing many CDrs and tapes. 


Sampling and repurposing are the key features of his music, which is mostly derived from samples taken from various sources such as found tapes, shortwave radio broadcasts, or clips from the internet. These are processed through either software, tape manipulation, effects pedals, samplers or other means, resulting in heavily distorted sounds which can range from abstract noise to peaceful drone.  Releases tend to be solo, but he has sometimes collaborated with other DIY artists such as Caybee Calabash, Arkhyanax and Sam Fauchon.
