A2 Abd El Monim
A2 Abd El Monim, born Alan Abd El Monim, is an Italian-Egyptian artist and composer. His identity represents a meeting point between two worlds and two profoundly different cultural traditions. On one side, the African, Arabic-speaking heritage, rich in history and spirituality; on the other, the European, Neo-Latin-speaking branch, steeped in modernity and rationalism. It is the fusion of these two cultures that gives rise to a bridge connecting different languages, experiences, and values.
A2 Abd El Monim expresses himself through musical creation, ranging from electronic to purely instrumental music, and through the interaction between the arts. His music has been performed at numerous national and international festivals, including: Musica d’Arte (Riccione, Italy), Luci d’Artista (Salerno, Italy), GAMO (Florence, Italy), Spazio Musica (Cagliari, Italy), Caustico Lunare (Bologna, Italy), On Air – On Site (The Hague, Netherlands), Sound Spaces (Malmö, Sweden), and more.
In 2019, he composed music for Giovanni Oberti’s solo exhibition “La pelle degli oggetti” held at Galleria Milano. In 2022, he curated the exhibition of Oberti’s works “Lui&Lei”, presented at ArtVerona and represented by Galleria Fuoricampo in Siena. In 2020, he began a collaboration with poet Milo De Angelis, setting to music the poem “A volte, sull’orlo della notte, si rimane sospesi”. He has also composed music for theatrical works directed by Emily Tartamelli and for film productions by directors such as Reto Gelshorn, Enea Francia, Paola Piscitelli, and Fabio Corbellini. He collaborated with the London fashion brand B DODI and was invited to participate in the group exhibition “Instructions to Light-Keepers” (Milan), presenting his sound installation “La Tempesta”. In March 2023, his interactive and generative music and video installation “Periodo Nero” was selected for the Picasso tribute in Florence and presented at the Certosa di Firenze in September of the same year. In 2023, he was selected to participate in the Malta Biennale 2024. Starting in 2024, he began a collaboration with the multidisciplinary artist and performer Claudia Locatelli, taking part in various projects related to performance art and the artistic vocabulary of the New Circus.
