Legacy is an auto ethnographic work that traces the artist’s relocation from Northern Ireland to London during the Covid pandemic.
It is composed from surreptitiously recorded street sounds, urban field recordings from Derry and London and found sounds. Alcoholics breaking restrictions on a street corner backstabbing a local taxi driver; girls on a doorstep gossiping whether a friend is lesbian. A new block of council flats being built as a result of the ‘bedroom tax’. Traffic sounds, domestic sounds of isolation and, ultimately, the sound of a timer.

Robert Gillespie

Robert Gillespie is a multidisciplinary artist from Derry, Northern Ireland currently living and creating in London.

He grew up during the Troubles and his work examines his experiences of that sectarian conflict.

His aesthetic is shaped by the BBC Radiophonics Workshop and 1970s hauntology.
