“Husks, tusks, crusts, trust and a light sprinkling of luck” - a dialog on compost and being composted. Via in person conversations in Osaka and transoceanic voice notes, Kaori and Brian sift through the languages of this time machine. They are accompanied by organs, drums, harp, shamisen, washing machines, synthesizers, pianos, trombone and multiple bird ensembles and soloists in various stages of digestion. Music and editing by Brian, featuring an excerpt of “Today’s Excursion” by Kaori and fellow Osaka poet Warren Decker.

KYBA

KYBA is the duo of multidisciplinary artists Kaori Yoshikawa (Osaka, Japan) and Brian Allen (Freeport, USA). Their collaborations include the upcoming films “When Finches Dream of Song” and “When I Raise My Hand to Say Goodbye”, Kaori’s texts and interview in Brian’s “Almanac 2026” multimedia book and his short films with and for Kaori’s “Norarikurari” bird- friendly zine and website. Poet, rapper and zine-maker Kaori divides her time between curation, teaching, translation and creation, having run galleries in Osaka, where she lives. Since 2007, trombonist and composer Brian drifts between Texas, Mexico City, Japan and Sri Lanka, teaching and making music, books and films.
