Ü
Ü is a project born in 2021 from the partnership between percussionists Thomas Canna and Filippo Abrate, who met as fellow students at the Accademia Nazionale del Jazz in Siena, and musicians Giovanni Falascone (piano, live electronics) and Alessandro Luppi (soprano and bass clarinet, alto saxophone), who had been working together for some time in the Milan area.
The quartet recorded their debut album (Ü, self-production) in spring 2022 and their second album and first live album (ASTRA, MUPE Records) in May 2023.
The line-up is oriented towards rhythmic/rhythmic research, within which, starting from common backgrounds such as jazz, electroacoustic, ethnic, contemporary and experimental music, they explore a ritual and evocative dimension in which to build a performance, a research space between compositional intent and pure improvisation, with the desire to look out on the contemporary European panorama of research music.
