Liquid Roots is a live performance that flows between memory and immediacy, tracing the sonic textures of water as it moves through two distant geographies: the Norwegian fjords and the rivers and coasts of Spain.

Through improvisation with cello, piano, water, and voice/spoken word, we build evolving soundscapes that evoke the presence, movement, and emotional resonance of water. Importantly, we use water as a physical and acoustic element in the performance—not merely as inspiration or metaphor, but as an active sound source in itself.

Though both of us are classically trained, our practices have gradually shifted toward experimental and interdisciplinary approaches. Angelsen treats the cello as a physical and textural instrument, often moving away from its traditional tonal qualities. De Teresa expands piano performance by incorporating voice, movement, and extended techniques to reframe the instrument's role and presence. As The Hague–based artists and long-time collaborators, we’ve worked together in a variety of improvisation-based projects, including E2P2C, SYNAPSE Collective, Raw Dates Sessions at iii Workspace, and the Sonology Electroacoustic Ensemble.

Coming from opposite ends of Europe—Norway and Spain—we are connected by water, which functions as both a sonic material and emotional thread linking our geographies and artistic identities. Liquid Roots unfolds as a responsive, improvised dialogue between our geographies, instruments, and artistic identities. It is a performance grounded in deep listening, real-time interaction, and the raw materiality of sound.

Silvia De Teresa and Sigrid Angelsen

Silvia De Teresa is a Spanish pianist and improviser based in The Hague (NL). Her work moves between music, movement, and social practice, and is rooted in process-based, improvisational creation that invites vulnerability, curiosity, and shared authorship. She has performed with Klangforum Wien, Sonology Electroacoustic Ensemble, and at festivals and venues such as Holland Festival, Düsseldorf Festival, and L’Auditori Barcelona.

Sigrid Sand Angelsen is a Norwegian musician based in The Hague (NL) and Trondheim (NO). She is a cellist, improviser and composer-performer, regularly appearing in a variety of projects across many genres. Her work consists of her own projects, collaborations with others and participation in projects with ensembles such as Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, New Europen Ensemble, Amund Åse Quartet and Duo MA.

Silvia and Sigrid met during their time at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, where they are currently completing a Master’s in New Audiences and Innovative Practices.
