  • GØNG
  • Genre: Sound installation / sculpture
  • Duration: 30 min
  • GØNG was born as a site-specific sound installation for the Lydbrøndene sound system, consisting of 32 “sound wells” in Bent Fabricius-Bjerres Plads, Frederiksberg (DK). Organising the wells’ distribution in three imaginary concentric ‘circles’, continuously processed gong sounds are diffused in time and space through an algorithm where each circle obtains a different spectromorphological character (outer: noise-like, middle:
    textural, inner: gestural).
It is a work that reflects on the concept of duality. A diffuse island made of many islands, separated but still connected through sound. The underground and the overground. The inner and outer space. Entering the space or listening from outside. Multitude and singularity. Presence and absence. Meditation and new beginning.
GØNG continues its life outside the original space through a custom built device consisting of two speakers encapsulated in a rotating mirror ball. Two sound textures diffuse from the antipodes of the mirrorball in a constant movement of overlaps and divergences. Meditation becomes hypnosis.
