  • This work is part of Eco-Listening: Sound Creation for an Ethic of Caring for Life, a co-creation project with two nahua poets from the state of Tlaxcala, Mexico: Ethel Xochitiotzin Pérez and Fabiola Carrillo Tieco. The project was awarded by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico through the National Center for the Arts (CENART) and the Chapultepec, Nature and Culture Project of the Government of Mexico.

    Eco-Listening: Sound Creation for an Ethic of Caring for Life is a project that has been presented to date in five countries around the world: Scotland (United Kingdom), Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, and Mexico.

    This work was created in collaboration with the nahua poet Fabiola Carrillo Tieco, originally from San Pablo del Monte, Tlaxcala (Mexico). Fabiola Carrillo holds a degree in History from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at BUAP; a Master's degree in Mesoamerican Studies from UNAM (Mexico), where she is currently pursuing a doctorate; and is also a professor of Nahuatl Language and Culture at CELE-UNAM. She is a Nahuatl storyteller and has taught various workshops for the revitalization of the language. Her publications include San Pablo del Monte Cuauhtotoatla, a history through the strata of Nahuatl toponymy (2012); a short story in Nahuatl: In tlazinque. La perezosa (The Sloth), published by INALI (2012); In xinachtli in tlahtolli. Amoxtli zazanilli. El semillero de palabras (The Seedbed of Words). Book of Stories (2014); Yei xinachtli, Yei tlahtolli. Three seeds, three words (2015) and coordinator of the Toconehua project and book (2016).

  • This sound work is part of Learning to Listen: Sound Creation on Original Poetry, a creative research that achieved, in its second stage from 2019 to 2020, the creation of three sound works of 20 minutes each, which have been presented on twelve platforms in eight countries: Canada, Spain, Bolivia, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, and Mexico.

    This sound work was created in collaboration with the nahua poet Martín Tonalmeyotl, who is originally from Atzacoaloya, Chilapa de Álvarez (Guerrero, Mexico), and was born in 1983. He is a peasant, poet, storyteller, teacher and promoter of the Nahuatl language, broadcaster, translator, photographer and columnist. He is the author of the books: Ritual de los olvidados (2016), Antología personal (2017) and Uña mar (2019). He holds a degree in Latin American Literature from the Autonomous University of Guerrero (UAGro), a Master's degree in Indo American Linguistics from the Center for Research and Advanced Studies in Social Anthropology (CIESAS), and a Nahuatl language professor at the Intercultural University of Puebla (UIEP). He was also a scholarship recipient of the Guerrero Artistic Creation and Development Incentive Program (PECDAG) 2015-2016 and the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) 2016-2017, in addition to having received the 2019 Bellas Artes Award for Literature in Indigenous Languages.

Zael Ortega

Zael Ortega is a philosopher and sound creator with 25 years of experience in the field of sound and radio creation. He graduated from the College of Philosophy, specializing in Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art, at the Autonomous University of Puebla (Mexico). He has received four awards from the International Radio Biennial and from Radio UNAM (Mexico). His radio works have been presented on more than fifty radio stations (FM/Web) around the world specializing in radio art.
His electroacoustic, sound, and radio works have been presented in fourteen countries. He has received numerous commissions and assignments from various institutions to create soundscapes
and works of electroacoustic music, sound art, and radio art. He has been a two-time recipient of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts of Mexico. He was awarded a prize by the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Puebla (Mexico) for his project “Learning to Listen: Sound Creation on Original Poetry”, which has been presented in eight countries around the world. He recently received an award from the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico through the National

Center for the Arts (CENART) and the Chapultepec, Nature and Culture Project for his project “Eco- Listening: Sound Creation for an Ethics of Caring for Life”, which has been presented in five countries around the world. He is the creator and producer of “Electroacoustic Arts”, the first and only radio program in Puebla (Mexico) completely dedicated to experimental sound and radio creation, which is currently 25 years old and on the air for 20 years on Radio Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico).
