Zael Ortega
Zael Ortega is a philosopher and sound artist with 25 years of professional background in sound art and radio art. He graduated from the College of Philosophy, specializing in aesthetics and philosophy of art, at the Autonomous University of Puebla (Mexico). Since 2000, his work has focused on the field of creative research, which refers to transdisciplinary research through sound creation. This research brings together, on the one hand, the fields of philosophical, anthropological, and sociological inquiry; and on the other hand, the fields of electroacoustic music, radio art, and sound documentary. All of this forms the basis for the construction of a Political Ethics of Listening, a method that he proposed in 2010 and from which his entire concept of sound and radio art stems. His sound works have been presented in fifteen countries worldwide and have received national and international recognition. His radio works have received four awards from the International Radio Biennial (Mexico) and Radio UNAM (Mexico), and have been broadcast on more than fifty radio stations (FM/Web) around the world specializing in electroacoustic music, sound art, and radio art. His sound and radio work has received grants on two occasions from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts, the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Mexico, the National Center for the Arts (CENART), the Ministry of Culture of the State of Puebla, the Municipal Institute of Art and Culture of Puebla (IMACP), among other institutions. He is also the author and producer along with Anayuri Güemes of Electroacoustic Arts: the first and only radio project in Puebla (Mexico) completely dedicated to experimental sound and radio creation, which is currently 25 years since its inception and 20 years on the air at
Radio Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (Mexico).
