Arash Famiilirani
Arash Famiilirani is a Montreal-based electroacoustic composer and sound artist whose work explores the relationship between perception, time, and minimal sonic materials. His practice focuses on the expansion of micro-events within sound, transforming subtle acoustic gestures into immersive auditory environments through processes such as time-stretching, layering, and spectral manipulation.
He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Electroacoustic Studies from Concordia University, where he developed a strong foundation in experimental composition, sound design, and critical listening. His work has been presented in various contexts including the 60×60 Concordia series and performances with the Concordia Laptop Orchestra, where he engaged in live sound design and collaborative performance.
Famiilirani’s artistic approach is rooted in attentive listening and the exploration of sonic thresholds. By working with minimal material—often derived from acoustic sources—he reveals complex textures, instabilities, and resonances that emerge over extended durations. His compositions prioritize texture, perception, and spatial experience over traditional musical structures.
Alongside his artistic practice, he works as an audio engineer and sound designer, contributing to podcasts, multimedia projects, and interactive audio systems. His technical expertise informs his artistic work, bridging precise sound processing with a conceptual exploration of listening.
His work invites audiences to experience sound as a dynamic and perceptual field, where even the smallest sonic detail can unfold into expansive sensory experiences.
