Long Strings WAVES

Two strings are horizontally tensed in our studio, each 8 meters long. Each string is amplified and has an exciter hanging from the string. Both strings have crocodile clips clipped on several positions and a thin piece of aluminium is lying on top of both strings. The construction is made to produce vibration feedback. The complex sounds change because the aluminium slowly moves along the vibrating strings. There is no human interference or turning knobs involved.

Petra Dubach and Mario van Horrik

Started their collaboration in 1983 as a dancer and musician. Main concept: movement and sound are identical: without vibration there is no life. They present objects, installations, performances, visual art and concerts worldwide. Their work has been published by Edition Telemark in Berlin and Silent Records, Los Angeles. Work of Petra and Mario is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in Olomouc, CZ and the Reina Sofia in Madrid.

In 2026 they are invited to make an exhibition at the Audio Foundation in Auckland, NZ and performances on trains in Auckland, as well as concerts in Auckland, Wellington and Palmerston North. A concert during the CYFEST 17 in Yerevan, Armenia is on the roll as well.
